Question

What is the most effective way to encourage ILT attendance?

Hello all,
We are currently having this issue where users are going through all the course material before a scheduled ILT takes place resulting in absences when the ILT actually happens.

We are looking for ways that this can be done in Docebo. We tested out creating a 1-question quiz before the final course quiz that users must get from their instructor, but we realize that this password must be maintained and refreshed every so often and has to be distributed across all of our organization and each ILT will need to have one.

Hoping to hear how everyone else has gone around this issue

Hello @hnakasone !

I completely understand the frustration with the password-protected quiz, it's a maintenance headache that doesn't scale well across an organization. Before trying to force everything into a single course, there is a much cleaner native way to enforce this in Docebo using Learning Plans and Prerequisites.

Here is the most effective way to lock the materials:

  1. Split the Content: Create two separate courses. Keep your live session in an ILT Course (strictly for scheduling and attendance tracking) and put all your slides, reading materials, and the final quiz into an E-Learning Course.

  2. Create a Learning Plan: Bundle both of these courses together into a single Learning Plan.

  3. Set the Prerequisite: Inside the Learning Plan settings, configure the ILT Course as a prerequisite for the E-Learning Course.

How it works in practice:

When users open the Learning Plan, they will see both courses, but the E-Learning course will be locked. They physically cannot access the materials or the final test until the instructor marks their ILT session attendance as "Completed." Once attendance is marked, the platform automatically opens the next available course based on the prerequisite.

In organizations I've worked with, this two-course Learning Plan pattern is the gold standard for blended learning. It completely eliminates the manual password management you are currently doing and provides much cleaner reporting on both the live attendance and the digital consumption.

You can find the exact steps for setting course prerequisites inside a Learning Plan in the official documentation here:

Hope this helps!
