Hi everyone, I’m Roberto Moscatelli from the Docebo Support team and I would like to share something about Self-Enrolling into Courses from Channels.

Currently it’s possible to self-enroll into courses that have the “enrollment policy” set to “free” also in channels, and not just in catalog pages.

To do this, you need to enable the “Show courses where users can self-enroll in channels”

in the Admin Menu-Advanced settings-Channels:

UBxVuMy6U8n1N5xY3Tw_vC9tS3eHyWKt1r4GlRO07HQG4YoAstDSb-mZWXFBZYm6vBfouppmci5zhCPqanfh17Zqk-QNYyodtWq-v7zjbhCEgHCEZxVDHQnRHtud1B4wQhzSrkn_3LVW3_8eXA

The other “must condition” to see those courses in the channels is that learner must have the visibility on at least one catalog the course is assigned to, otherwise they will not see those courses in the channel page.

Enabling this option, learners can also filter the courses included in channels using the Show only courses in which I'm not enrolled filter in the Enrollment Status filter area.

Notes to remember:

  • learners cannot see learning plans available for self-enrollment in channels

  • courses “under maintenance” are not shown in channels

  • courses imported from the Content Marketplace and made available in channels are not filtered by the “Show only courses in which I'm not enrolled filter” even if they're available for self-enrollment

Is there a way to do this for learning plans as well or just courses?

At the moment we have to have a course in a catalogue before it will appear in the channel even if it has self enrollment enabled. Is this just us? Is there something else we should be doing? @roberto.moscatelli

@alex.driggs currently this is possible only for courses. Anyway we have an open idea at the following link:

@Lucy.blake yes, this is a “must condition”.  To see those courses in the channels, the learner must have the visibility on at least one catalog the course is assigned to, otherwise they will not see those courses in the channel page.

@roberto.moscatelli - would you consider making this setting possible to set at a channel level as well?

We have used channels to show courses users are enrolled on only. But as we start to use more channels it would be really good to have some of those newer channels allow users to self-enrol. We absolutely can’t turn this on for all channels because of how we were encouraged to set channels up initially.

I am forced to use a combination of channels and catalogues, but a channel would show other resources and playlists as well as self-enrol courses which is the best of both worlds.

@Katzen thanks for your message!

I’m not sure that I completely understand your question.

Are you meaning you would like to have an option for users to self “subscribe/see” a channel (and in case follow that channel)?

If yes, this is not possible, as Channel visibility is based on the permission the Admin give to users.

If you in Admin Menu-Channels you will see a column named “visibility”: there is where the admin set the visibility of that channel for users/branches/groups.

Because of this, users cannot self subscribe to a channel that they don’t have visibility to (cause they cannot see that channel).
If users have visibility to a channel, they are already “subscribed” to that channel.

Please let me know if this answer to your question,

Have a wonderful day!

Roberto

@roberto.moscatelli - Sorry for not being clear.

The visibility on our channels is set correctly. User groups are added onto the channels we want visible to them and they display the courses we have enrolled them to. So the ‘Advanced Setting’ we have is that users who can see the channels can only see courses they are enrolled on.

The ‘Advanced setting’ you mentioned above will allow all users to see all courses in a channel so they can self-enrol onto courses.

I have recently come across a situation in which it would be good to have an individual channel that has the option to self-enrol onto courses and display other resources and playlists (which catalogues don’t do). But I can’t turn on that advanced setting for every single channel because then users would see way more courses than I want them to in the majority of our channels (most of which wouldn’t be relevant which is why we have the settings as they are).

I like the option to use ‘Advanced settings’ to specify how channels display courses. So my question is, would Docebo consider having a similar setting to the ‘Advanced setting’ but on an individual channel level instead of all or nothing for all channels?

@Katzen thank you so much for your reply and all the details.

At the moment, this is not possible.

We already have an open idea in our Community Portal at the following link:

My suggestion is to upvote it (currently there are only 2 votes, I’ll go ahead and add my vote too).

Have a wonderful day!

Roberto
