How do you send reminders to users to complete compliance training? Is there a system setting that can send reminders at set intervals to incompletes?

There are at least 2 notificaitons you can use to remind users to complete their courses.

Learner has yet to complete a course is based on the enrolment date and can be sent x days, weeks, months after the enrolment date to users who have not yet completed a course.

The other is, Course has expired. This one requires that you add an “end of validity” (due date) date to the enrolments. With a due date in place, this notification can be sent before and/or after the due date until the course is completed by the user.

Does anyone know if this has changed and is there an option to alert users before the certification is expired?

Yes @pmiller , there is a dedicated notification event specifically for this.

In the organizations I've worked with, managing compliance at scale usually falls apart without a proactive "heads up" before the actual expiration date. You don't want to alert people once they are already out of compliance; you want to catch them 30 or 60 days prior.

The Notification You Need

To alert users before a certification expires, you should use the notification event: "Certification has expired" While the name sounds reactive, the power is in the Scheduling tab:

  1. Go to the Notifications area in your Admin Menu.

  2. Create a new notification and select Certification has expired as the event.

  3. In the Scheduling tab, you can set the notification to trigger [X] days/months BEFORE the event occurs.

Pro-Tip for Compliance Workflows

When I've set this up for high-stakes compliance environments, we typically create a "staggered" reminder sequence:

  • 60 days before: A gentle nudge to the Learner.

  • 30 days before: A firmer reminder to the Learner.

  • 7 days before: A notification to both the Learner and their Manager.

This ensures that the manager is only looped in when the risk of non-compliance becomes imminent, rather than being CC'd on every routine renewal notice.

You can find the full list of certification-related triggers and how to configure them in the official documentation here: Notification events and conditions
