Hello,

I’m currently testing the new feature and I couldn’t find the options to configure the following renewal paths:

  • Renewal via the same certification
  • Renewal via a single course within the certification
  • Renewal via a course outside the certification

Please let me know if I'm overlooking these options or if they're documented elsewhere. Our legacy certifications rely on these specific use cases, so we need to make sure they are fully supported.

Thank you

Hi @Diego Jimenez thanks for your questions, and to clarify each point:

  1. Renewal via the same certification (repeating the same mandatory courses that originally awarded it) - this is supported today. That's the standard renewal flow: during the renewal window the learner re-completes the required courses via the certification’s renewal workflow to be awarded the certification again.

  2. Renewal via a single course within the certification - if you mean using just one specific course as a shorter/alternate renewal path when the original certification required completing multiple mandatory courses, that's not supported yet in the new model. We've already heard about this request from other beta customers, and it's being evaluated for the 2027 roadmap. I'd encourage you to add any specific details on the use case you want to be considered.

  3. Renewal via a course outside the certification - do you mean renewal by adding an external training activity? If so, support for external training in the new flow isn't planned for GA, but it will be addressed immediately afterwards, with the goal of making it available before the legacy feature shuts down.

Hope this helps.

Greetings!

In the legacy certifications and retraining area, you could allow a user to choose from a list of courses to recertify. It appears that if you mark a course optional, it does not become part of the trigger for that certification, but if you mark more than one course mandatory, the user has to complete all mandatory courses rather than choosing one of the recertification options. Are the developers looking into options for allowing multiple different courses to be available to renew a certification?

A few examples:
1. We have a few courses that come in an “Initial” and a “Refresher”; we want the initial to be awarded to the user at first certification and then the refresher to be available to renew the same certification.
2. We have multiple compliance-related trainings that can come in different forms and packages; for example, Asbestos Awareness Training can come as a stand-alone, but also come as Asbestos and Heavy Metals Awareness, Asbestos and Silica Awareness, etc. I need all of those courses to renew the Asbestos certification, if possible.

I would be curious if anyone else is also looking at these types of use cases.

@kbrink1 this is answered here -

To summarize, this capability of defining a different set of courses for renewal than what was required to originally earn the certification, is not part of the new Certification and Retraining GA release in October.

We've logged this feedback and it's on our radar as we plan future roadmap work beyond GA.

Thanks again for taking the time to test the beta and for helping us make the new Certifications experience better.

Hi @jasmine.baretto, thank you for your response.

To give a bit more context on points 2 and 3: in our setup, recertifications can use either a specific course within the same Learning Plan or a standalone course outside of it.

We also have scenarios where a certification is tied directly to a single course without a Learning Plan involved. Will this change require us to always use a Learning Plan structure?

If this enhancement is planned for a future release, that works for us, as long as the legacy certification feature remains active until the new functionality is live and we have sufficient time to migrate. We currently manage hundreds of certifications using these models, so advance notice is critical for us to plan the transition and avoid operational disruptions. Thank you!

* Sorry - dropped this in the announcement thread by mistake. Posting here instead.

Our issue with Docebo certs is the renew functionality. A student can’t replay the course and re-up a certification - they must click the correct play button. Looks like the issue remains. The re-cert displays two play buttons -- Renew now and REPLAY. The Renew now functions correctly and renews the cert. The REPLAY button does not renew the cert. This makes Docebo certs a mess to manage, as half the students will click the REPLAY button.

Although a step in the right direction, I must say the Beta release seems a little half baked.

  • Inability to separate learning plans from certifications in the “Courses and learning plans” widget.
  • Inability to place a “certification" inside a learning plan.
  • Inability to have a recertification path differ from the initial completion.
  • (linked to the previous) inability to have a list of courses be “Or” for completion.
  • Recertify and Replay showing on the course page at the same time (old issue that is still present)

While I agree, from an interface point of view, it is more attractive, it smacks of trying to use the learning plan model to fix the certification issues, making both systems worse.

Edit: Sorry, rather than make a new post:

  • Optional and mandatory can be selected (including marking all as optional), but do nothing

@jasmine.baretto

Hello,

I have been testing in our Sandbox.

  1. In the new “Learning plans & Certifications”, is appears that a Certification can NOT be included within a Learning plan? (Is that the intended behaviour?)
    1. Is the “Legacy certification” the best approach? Use case: 2/5 courses in a learning plan need to have separate certifications for compliance (e.g., one for privacy and one for accessibility).
  2. Reporting
    1. In Custom Reports Builder, “Certifications – Users” pulls data from “Legacy certifications”, while “Users – Certifications” pulls data from the new “Learning plans & Certifications”.
      1. Is this the intended behaviour?
      2. How can you get a report “Users – Certifications” where the data is from the “Legacy certifications”?
    2. Observation: Insights – Certification dashboard pulls data from “Legacy certification.” Are there plans for a Insights dashboard for the “new” certification?
  3. In the event where both “Legacy certifications” and “Learning plans & Certifications” are used. It currently is VERY confusing for learners to know where to look to renew their certification. How will they know if it’s a “Legacy certification” or a “new” certification?
    1. My activities > Legacy certification (Note: The notice of “This tab will soon become read-only” is concerning. Will the current links for “Renew now” remain active? What will change with the “read-only” access?)

    2. My activities > Learning plans and certification

Thanks,
-Janice
