Hide Search Results Preview

Is there a way to hide the drop down preview of results for the global search? It seems to populate with the “All Search Results”, which means that Training Materials and Assets are showing first, since they have the higher “weight” due to tags, which is causing frustration and confusion from our learners. On our global search page, we have switched the order of the tabs so the “All Results” isn’t the default, which addresses it for that page, but the search preview drop down is causing problems.

I couldn’t find a place in setup to disable this and didn’t see anything in Community about using CSS. I’m open to suggestions.

Thanks!

Nevermind, I found the CSS!

If anyone else wants it, it is:

/** Hiding "search results preview" drop down from Global Search bar **/

doc-layout-global-search-boxed .global-search-boxed-results{

    visibility: hidden;

}

@ariel.zimmerman - hi good afternoon - just a quick note. You can remove some of those things from the preview/search all together without disrupting the preview with CSS. By doing that one impact by changing the CSS, I think you can potentially land up impacting Harmony as well….this setting I am talking about is a screenshot below….

Advanced Settings > Global Search

For example - we make Training Material go bye bye.

I agree with @dklinger in advanced settings→ Global Search, you can turn off and re-order the tabs that get displayed.

@RonB @dklinger , I think you misunderstood. I know I can change how they show on the actual search results page. I wanted to hide the drop down preview of 4 items that appears under the Global Search field, since there’s no way to change what type of results show, and training materials and assets both show up before courses, because tags weigh them higher.

But I appreciate the ideas and suggestions, since I wouldn’t have known that in the early days.

No miss understanding - the global search does actually impact the preview as well - especially disabling training materials can be helpful in alot of ways.

But this may not be the perfect scope for you….and I get that too.

Right, it would impact it if we excluded TMs (and TM tab) from the search functionality in Settings. But if we don’t want to do that, I don’t think it can help.

If we could choose what part of the global search results populated the preview used, that would be different. But it defaults to the All Results and there’s no way to change that I can find.

Thank you for clarifying, though. There is so much nuance in this system!
