Hi Friends!

Does anyone have experience authoring SCORM courses with iSpring? I have a client who is looking at them as an authoring tool and asked for my thoughts. I’ve always used the Articulate Suite.

I think the client is looking to control costs, given that they won’t be authoring a ton of courses themselves.

Are there other authoring tools I should help them look into?

@shanejacques - yeah Shane - I am sorry that I am getting back weeks after the fact.

iSpring on the desktop (I am unsure if they offer a Saas now) is pretty decent and can be a solid alternative to Articulate and Captivate licensing - it can keep the entry point low. Active Presenter is another decent alternative with a decent feature set. I cant believe I am going to say this - but with SCORM exporting and light authoring? Docebo’s content creator will be one to begin to contend in this space. Shoot if they want to do something for free? There is the H5P project that has a desktop tool and exporter that can output to SCORM. This one though has a learning curve that I would recommend a novice web page developer would be able to work with zero issues.

But my go to for light and Easy Authoring? Is EasyGenerator. If I can teach a nurse or provider or doc how to author with it? Anyone can get it with it. And guess what - they offer a decent free license out of the gate (and its bells and whistles today make it a really strong competitor with Articulate). A downside - the licensing can make a person pause. But you can go into a monthly payment plan - which can bring the economy to scale.

@gstager - a long time learning colleague that has work with alternative course building tools can add to the story some.

There used to be a killer SCORM Tools google sheet maintained around here somewheres. I think it has gone the way of the dodo.

I was a long-time Captivate user but with the recent changes they have made to the product, I can no longer use, support, or recommend that solution.

I am an Active Presenter user now and LOVE it! Been with them for about three years now.

Pricing is great - Currently at $500 -one time- for a perpetual license. This includes all updates within major version. Major version upgrades are only 40% of full price (so $200) - or free if major upgrade happens within your first year. I believe this puts it pound for pound - as a top contender.

Delayed advice is still good advice! Thanks for being as thorough as always in your response, my friend!

This one is new to me, but at that price point it’s worth me looking into! Thanks for sharing!
