Trademark symbols not allowed in Course Descriptions?

We frequently use the ™ and ® symbols in our course descriptions when listing our product names. Today we started getting this message:  Invalid format. Emojis are not allowed.

Has anyone figured out a workaround for the ® symbol?.

I can use TM for the trademark.

Thank you for any and all help!

@Scott Foster Hi, just a wild thought… any way you can use ASCII characters? The Windows character map app can be a tool for lookup

Or create a small image of the sign and use that.

w3schools.com is a good resource for the ASCII to use in HTML, you may run into issues if you are on the mobile app, so an image like Jeanette suggested would be an alternative:

Char Number Description
© &#169; COPYRIGHT
® &#174; REGISTERED TRADEMARK
&#8364; EURO SIGN
&#8482; TRADEMARK

Thanks everyone. I’ve tried the ASCII symbols, but Docebo still thinks it’s an emoji.

@JeanetteMcVeigh I would try the image but many of our team members who create courses do not know HTML.

I have opened a ticket with Docebo. I will keep you posted!

@Scott Foster curious to hear what Docebo had to say about this.

I put in a ticket about the issue.  Maybe we all should.

I also tried updating the description through the API.  It just refuses to update with those symbols.

If you’re desperate, the easiest workaround I can think of at the moment is to insert every ® and ™ as an image.  You can find them for free here: https://stock.adobe.com/search?k=trademark+symbol    Or right-click > save image as... on the ones pasted at the top of this message.

Hopefully Docebo will resolve this quickly.

I found another workaround that will work in editor-controlled boxes like the course description.

Go into the HTML code of the description.  Put the code in question between these tags:

<span id=”copyright”>YOURTEXT</span>

Then add the following CSS to your system:

#copyright:after {

  content:"\00AE ";

  vertical-align: super;

  font-size: 75%;

}

I have implemented this code for the TM.
