Has anyone gotten GA4 Site Search to work with Tags?

Hi there,

We are very interested in getting site search query data from our LMS, and we are trying to incorporate it with GA4. I have read a couple of discussions about the struggles of this process already. There are a few methods that have been suggested:

  1. The site search functionality in GA4. Since Docebo uses the path /global-search/ instead of a parameter, this does not work as intended, and GA4 cannot read the site search without the parameters - the URL option is not available anymore.
  2. Use the path data to filter. The problem I am running into is the same as I have seen in other forums. Only the certain, unuseful, paths are being recorded by GA4. The fix I read was to make sure the paths are configured with Google tags. Next problem. I can’t get the tags to connect to my site. Does anyone have any advice or additional details from this post that might help me? (Other post linked here: Google Analytics not showing all pages | Community (docebo.com))

If there’s any set up steps or information with how Docebo interacts with GA4, please let me know. This has been quite the process!

Hi there,

I think I mostly resolved my issue. I had to make sure that we were linking to the “Google Analytics 4” app in Docebo vs just the “Google Analytics” app. This allowed tags to be visible beyond the 4, so if you’re struggling with this, I recommend making sure you are putting your header/body code in the right place in Docebo.

However, some of the tags are having trouble tagging. I think some of this is from our SSO and homepage pop-ups. If anyone else has recommendations for making sure all the Docebo pages are tagged correctly, please let me know. Most, but not all, of my pages are being tagged right now.

Hi, how did you go about placing header and body codes for Google Tag manager? With GA4, I only see one field to input code. Thank you

@gordankalabic, When the GA4 instance was created, if you go into Google Tag manager, there is a section that is split by “Accounts” and “Google Tag”. Under the “Google Tag” should be your instance that you used for GA4 with the same tag. This means the ID for the GA4 and the Tag Manager are the same. And of course, you paste the code in the GA4 section of the “Google Analytics 4” App in Docebo. If you created the tags before you set up GA4, you should be able to connect GA4 to that account/instance.

I think I remember reading that Google Tag Manager and Docebo don’t talk nicely right now, so I don’t think setting up and account necessarily works, but I may be wrong, and if you figure out how to do it, let me know.

Basically, the way I have it set up uses the same code to send its information.
