5 tips to ask your question the right way

For newcomers, asking a question in the community can sometimes feel daunting. You’re stepping into uncharted territory, so that’s understandable. But it’s not rocket science! We’ve tried to make it as easy as possible and want to share a few tips to make sure you get the answer you’re looking for as quickly as possible. Follow these 5 steps for best results:

1. Search first, ask second  🔎
You’ll always be able to access the search bar at the top of the page. Our search currently spans across the Community and our Knowledge Base, so you’re sure to find something that can help you. Try using different types of search terms as well. Someone may have already asked your question but may have had a different way of asking it.

No luck with the search? Sorry about that, but it’s not all bad news. This means that you’re about to not only help yourself, but also help dozens of others who may follow in your footsteps with the same challenge.

Select + New Post at the top of any page to ask a question or start a conversation.

2. Don't hesitate
Nervous to submit because you’re afraid it's a stupid question? There’s no such thing as one of those, remember? We love to help around here. As long as you stay friendly, no one will ever judge you, we promise. 🙏

3. Keep your data yours
We cannot stress this enough. Please do not expose your users’ private information. If you do, we will remove your post and follow up with you directly. We want to keep this a safe space, so check twice before sharing!

4. Over-explain
Too often we assume others know what we're talking about. Describe your challenge or question in detail and describe anything that you feel might be relevant. If it’s product-related, describe exactly where you are in the platform and exactly what you see. Screenshots or even recordings always help, but don’t forget Rule #3!

5. Share your expectations
What outcome are you hoping to achieve? All too often we express our frustration or challenge but don’t let others know how they can help us. Be clear with your ask so that others can provide the best answer for you!

With these 5 tips, you’re certain to get some solid answers. Now go start asking!

Bonus tip: if someone shares a reply and it answers your question, be sure to mark that answer as best! This will make it significantly easier for others to find the answer in the future and will reward that person for helping you out. Let’s build a community that acknowledges others for helping us!

You know the last week I had been thinking about these kinds of tips and just happened to come across this nicely done entry that covered them all, so adding a comment to surface this to the top for a while in hopes it gets a few reads :)
