New Certification Migration: will we be able to migrate a "Learning Plan" to a new "Certification"?

I have a question about the migration capability shared in the Certifications FAQ post from ​@alessandro.riccelli (so helpful, thank you!), 

 

In early 2027, well ahead of the legacy feature's shutdown, we'll provide a dedicated migration tool to move from the old model to the new one quickly and autonomously, designed to minimise effort on your end. More details will come with the GA.

 

Our company has at least one Learning Plan that we consider a Certification today, but we don’t use the existing Certification & Retraining capability to facilitate the certification.

 

My question: Will there be a way to ‘migrate’ or ‘convert’ an existing Learning Plan into a Certification? I’m imagining a way to essentially change the content type of a Learning Plan to a Certification, preserving all enrollment data and content, and simply updating the new fields and information that are relevant for a Certification but not relevant for a Learning Plan. 

 

This capability would be very useful for us. I’m curious if it’d be helpful for others as well. Happy to answer any additional questions about our use case!

    Chiming in to say that this would be very helpful for us as well! I notice the in-platform guidance states that learning plans can’t be reconfigured into certifications (below), but I hope this can be part of the migration tool.

    Thanks for sharing this use case, really helpful context.

    To clarify scope: the dedicated migration tool we're building is intended only for migrating legacy Certifications to the new Certification model. More details on this will come with GA.

    For your specific scenario - converting a Learning Plan into a new Certification, that's outside the tool's current scope. You'd need to set up the new Certification and handle enrollment/history migration manually.

    We don't have immediate plans to support this specific use case, but it's a reasonable idea worth capturing. I'd encourage you to submit it as a feature request/idea so it can be tracked and considered alongside similar feedback from other customers.

    ​@jasmine.baretto Thanks for your reply! I’d like to make sure I’m understanding correctly. Many of our current certifications are connected to/awarded via existing learning plans. When you say that the migration tool “is intended only for migrating legacy Certifications to the new Certification model,” could you clarify what is actually being migrated if the associated courses are not included? For example, will the migration tool just create a new “learning path - certification” with no courses assigned and we have to add them all manually/via CSV? 

    Should we be cross-posting all suggestions in this group to the ideas portal for them to be considered?
