Course reminder notifications for online training

You can set this up using Docebo's native Notifications app. To trigger emails before a due date, you'll use the Course has expired event.

Because of how Docebo's notification engine is built, a single notification can only have one schedule (e.g., 30 days before) and one primary recipient role. Therefore, to achieve your exact frequency, you'll actually need to build four separate notifications using the same "Course has expired" event:

1. 30-Day Nudge: Set to 30 days before the event → Recipient: Users

2. 20-Day Nudge: Set to 20 days before the event → Recipient: Users

3. 7-Day Learner Nudge: Set to 7 days before the event → Recipient: Users

4. 7-Day Manager Escalation: Set to 7 days before the event → Recipient: Managers

A few quick tips from the trenches:

• The Roles Rule: Notice how the 7-day mark requires two separate notifications? Docebo requires you to configure distinct notifications if you want to notify both the Learner and their Manager. You cannot select multiple recipient roles in a single setup.

• Messaging Strategy: When I've deployed this sequence for organizations with similar compliance requirements, we typically escalate the tone in the subject lines. Start with "Friendly Reminder" at 30 days, "Action Required" at 20 days, and "Immediate Action Required" at 7 days. It helps drive completions without causing alert fatigue early on.
