Is there an option to turn on sound to make the bell ping when a notification comes through?

Hi @Kym Percival, welcome to the Docebo Community!

Currently, there isn't a native setting in Docebo to trigger an audio ping for the in-app notification bell—top-bar notifications rely strictly on the visual badge counter.

An audio alert is an interesting concept, though before looking into custom workarounds, it helps to look at how learners actually interact with the platform day-to-day. In enterprise environments I've worked with, we consistently see that learners rarely keep the LMS open in a background tab waiting for updates. Because most users log in for a specific task and leave right after, an in-app sound would go unheard by the vast majority of your audience.

To get that real-time "ping" effect and actually capture their attention when something urgent happens, the pattern that holds up best is routing those alerts to the tools your users already keep open all day:

  • Microsoft Teams or Slack: Pushing notifications directly into their daily chat workspace via Docebo's native integrations or Docebo Connect, which naturally triggers their desktop/mobile notification sound.

  • Immediate Email Alerts: Configuring the Notifications app (Admin Menu → E-Learning → Notifications) to send real-time emails for high-priority events so their email client pings instead.

  • Custom CSS Visual Callouts: If your users do stay logged into the platform all day (for example, in a call center or dedicated training lab environment), you can use Custom Styles (Admin Menu → Settings → Configure Branding and Look → Custom Styles) to add a subtle CSS pulse animation to the notification badge so it stands out visually without requiring audio permissions.

Out of curiosity, what is the specific event or workflow you're hoping users will notice right away? Happy to share how we usually automate alerts for that specific scenario!
